Our Challenge:
We are seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to help accelerate application onboarding by designing and delivering standardized, reusable Terraform modules and reference patterns for Azure. This role will focus on building a simple, consistent, and secure cloud provisioning experience—leveraging GitHub/GitHub Actions for CI/CD—so application teams can onboard faster with less dependency on specialized engineering support.

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors.
In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Richmond, VA is $100K - $110K /year & benefits (see below).
Responsibilities:
Terraform Module Engineering & Patterns
- Develop, and maintain reusable Terraform modules and reference architectures/patterns that align to internal standards and governance.
- Create “golden path” onboarding patterns that enable rapid and consistent provisioning for USB applications (e.g., network + compute + security + observability ready).
- Produce high-quality module documentation (inputs/outputs, examples, versioning) and enforce coding standards across repos. Azure Platform Delivery (Core Services)
- Provision and support Azure services using Terraform, including (but not limited to):
- AKS, ARO, Azure Front Door, Storage Accounts, Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Functions, Azure SQL Database (and related dependencies like networking, DNS, key vault, etc.).
- Partner with SRE/CloudOps to implement reliable, scalable, and secure cloud foundations that reduce toil and improve onboarding velocity.
CI/CD Automation (GitHub / GitHub Actions)
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for Terraform plan/apply workflows, quality gates, and automated validations
- Implement Git-based workflow practices (branching strategy, PR reviews, versioning, release tags) to support repeatable provisioning.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with application teams to onboard workloads and translate requirements into reusable modules/patterns.
- Contribute to operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge capture to enable self-service onboarding and consistent execution.
Requirements:
- Hands-on Azure engineering experience (or equivalent depth) delivering production-grade solutions.
- Strong hands-on Terraform experience building modules, composition patterns, and managing environments/state.
- Proven experience with Azure services such as AKS, ARO, Front Door, Storage Accounts, APIM, Functions, Azure SQL.
- Experience building CI/CD automation using GitHub and GitHub Actions.
- Strong understanding of secure cloud practices: RBAC, least privilege, secrets management, and deployment guardrails.
- Excellent documentation and collaboration skills; able to translate requirements into standardized building blocks.
Preferred, but not required:
- Experience with SRE/CloudOps operating models, reliability principles, and reducing operational toil through automation
- Experience with GitOps concepts and enterprise branching/release strategies.
- Experience building “platform onboarding” capabilities (templates, scaffolding, validations) for internal developer enablement.
